The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a comprehensive three-day weather forecast predicting varying conditions of sunshine, dust haze, and thunderstorms across different regions of the country from Monday to Wednesday.
According to the weather outlook released Sunday in Abuja, the northern region will experience slight dust haze Monday with visibility ranging between 2 to 5 kilometers throughout the forecast period.
NiMet’s forecast indicates that north-central states should expect “sunny skies in a hazy atmosphere throughout the forecast period.”
For the southern region, the agency predicts “sunny skies with patches of clouds” alongside possible thunderstorms and light rains, particularly affecting Cross River, Rivers, and Akwa Ibom States during afternoon and evening hours.
Tuesday’s forecast shows more intense conditions in the north, with moderate dust haze reducing visibility to less than 1,000 meters. The north-central region will maintain slight dust haze conditions, while the south faces increased chances of thunderstorms.
“Light rains over parts of Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River and Akwa Ibom States,” NiMet stated regarding Tuesday’s southern forecast.
Wednesday’s outlook maintains similar patterns, with moderate dust haze continuing in the north, slight dust haze in the north-central region, and thunderstorms with light rains expected in parts of Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom states.
Given these weather conditions, NiMet has issued several crucial advisories. “Dust particles are in suspension, the public should take necessary precautions, and people with asthmatic conditions and other respiratory issues should be cautious of the present conditions,” the agency warned.
The agency specifically addressed airline operators, stating: “Airline operators are advised to get airport-specific weather reports (flight documentation) from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.”
NiMet emphasized the importance of adhering to safety advisories, particularly in areas prone to thunderstorms, where strong winds might precede rainfall.
