In a significant development, Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has immediately lifted the suspension of Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwalu Danladi Sankara, following his discharge and acquittal by an Upper Sha’riah Court in Kano State.
The Secretary to the Jigawa State Government, Bala Ibrahim, released an official statement detailing the circumstances surrounding the commissioner’s reinstatement.
“It would be recalled that the Commissioner was suspended based on alleged involvement in an incident reported before Kano State Hisbah Board,” Ibrahim explained.
The Explainer reported, last month, Mr. Sankara was accused of engaging in an illicit affair with Tasleem Baba Nabegu, a married woman.
The Kano Hisbah board had claimed that the commissioner was arrested in an uncompleted building in a compromising position with the woman.
Hisbah board’s director-general, Abba Sufi, revealed that the commissioner’s arrest was prompted by a complaint from the woman’s brother-in-law, who accused Mr. Sankara of improper conduct.
At the time of suspension, Mr. Ibrahim emphasized the government’s commitment to accountability.
“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation,” he stated. “We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”
Governor Namadi’s decision to lift the suspension comes directly after the Upper Sha’riah Court’s acquittal, which effectively cleared Mr. Sankara of the allegations made by the Hisbah board.
“We are committed to accountability and ethical standards in governance,” Ibrahim reiterated, highlighting the government’s approach to handling sensitive personnel matters.
