Nigerian Army troops have apprehended a notorious kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a coordinated operation in Taraba State’s Lau Local Government Area.
In a statement released by Captain Olubodunde Oni, Acting Assistant Director of 6 Brigade Army Public Relations on Sunday, troops from 6 Brigade Nigerian Army Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) conducted a successful sting operation across Maraban Abare, Bomanda, and Karamuke village on November 12.
The operation led to the arrest of Suleiman Ahmad, a resident of Bomanda village, who has been identified as a notorious kidnapper.
During interrogation, Ahmad made startling confessions about his criminal activities.
“During an initial investigation, Suleiman Ahmad confessed to the abduction of approximately 20 individuals within Lau LGA and revealed that he had extorted over 70 million Naira from his victims,” the statement detailed.
“The suspect further admitted to having an AK 47 rifle, which he used in his criminal operations.”
Following Ahmad’s confession, the troops conducted a follow-up operation on November 15, which yielded additional success.
The military successfully recovered the mentioned AK-47 rifle from its hiding place and arrested one of Ahmad’s accomplices.
“The suspect, identified as Hussaini, a suspected gunrunner, was arrested at his residence in the Mayo Dassa area of Lau LGA,” Captain Oni confirmed in the statement.
The 6 Brigade Nigerian Army reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining security in the region, emphasizing their commitment to dismantling criminal networks and protecting citizens from kidnapping and other violent crimes.
“6 Brigade Nigerian Army remains steadfast in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens. We will continue to deploy all necessary resources to dismantle criminal networks and protect law-abiding residents from the scourge of kidnapping and other forms of violent crime,” the statement declared.
The military also emphasized the crucial role of public cooperation in achieving their security objectives, urging citizens to maintain vigilance and report any suspicious activities to security agencies.
