Afrobeats sensation Wizkid has officially announced November 22 as the release date for his highly anticipated album, ‘Morayo.’
The 34-year-old singer confirmed the date on X, writing, “Morayo pre-save album! Nov 22” accompanied by his signature “biggest bird” emoji.
‘Morayo,’ which translates to “I See Joy” in Yoruba, is a deeply personal project dedicated to Wizkid’s late mother, Jane Morayo Balogun, who passed away in 2023 at 66.
“My album ‘Morayo’, dedicated to my mom, the love of my life, drops very soon. Don’t dull. Don’t sleep,” Wizkid revealed in June.
This album follows the release of his smooth single, “Piece of My Heart,” featuring American soul artist Brent Faiyaz, which has amplified anticipation for the project.
Wizkid has been building excitement through teasers and cryptic X posts, including some interpreted as subtle jabs at fellow artist Davido.
‘Morayo’ will be released via Starboy/Sony Music International/RCA Records, Billboard reports.
Wizkid has called it the “best work” he has ever created, blending Afrobeats and R&B in his distinct style.
With ‘Morayo,’ Wizkid is poised to further solidify his legacy as a global music icon. His previous albums, including ‘Superstar’ (2011), ‘Ayo’ (2014), ‘Sounds from the Other Side’ (2017), ‘Made in Lagos’ (2020), and ‘More Love, Less Ego’ (2022), have marked key moments in his rise to stardom.
Wizkid’s contribution to global music has garnered him several accolades, including a Grammy Award for his work on Beyoncé’s “Brown Skin Girl.” As he prepares to release ‘Morayo,’ fans anticipate a raw and heartfelt body of work reflecting his emotional journey following his mother’s passing.
“Morayo is a tribute to my mom, the love of my life,” Wizkid said.
This album promises to be an intimate and emotional experience, showcasing Wizkid’s growth as an artist and his unwavering dedication to his craft.
As the release date approaches, excitement builds among fans and music enthusiasts alike.
Will ‘Morayo’ live up to Wizkid’s claim of being his best work yet? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain – this album will be a milestone in Wizkid’s illustrious career.
