The newly elected chairmen and vice chairmen for the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State have been sworn in by Governor Umo Eno.
The governor emphasized the importance of prioritizing the welfare of the people during their tenure.
Governor Eno, addressing the new officials, highlighted the challenging economic conditions and the need for effective grassroots governance.
“Your coming into grassroots government at a time of dwindling economic fortunes places a burden on you to turn the situation around for the benefit of the people,” he stated.
The elections saw 30 chairmen elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and one on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Notably, five of the new chairmen are women, and 26 of the vice chairmanship positions are also held by women.
Governor Eno expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) for conducting a fair and free election.
He charged the new chairmen to ensure peace and unity at the grassroots level, aligning with the Arise Agenda of his administration.

The new chairmen will oversee the affairs of their respective local government areas for the next three years.
They are also expected to swear in elected ward councillors across all 31 local government areas.
The newly sworn-in officials are tasked with the responsibility of driving this vision forward, ensuring that the needs and aspirations of the people are met.
