The Sunday’s live show of Big Brother Naija Season 9 saw the eviction of three housemates – Handi, Shaun, and Tjay – leaving the remaining contestants reeling with just two weeks left in the competition.
Host Ebuka Obi-Uchendu revealed the fate of the bottom three contestants, who were among nine housemates nominated for eviction earlier in the week.
The tension in the house had been palpable following Monday’s face-to-face nomination twist, where housemates had to publicly nominate two others for eviction.
The voting results showed Shaun securing 8.94% of the votes, Handi receiving 3.99%, and Tjay trailing with a mere 1.04%.
The evictions sparked emotional reactions, particularly from Wanni, who broke down in tears as she bid farewell to her close ally and lover, Shaun, as well as her sister, Handi.
During her post-eviction interview, Handi expressed mixed emotions, saying, “It is so hard leaving my sister, the love of my life. I was talking to Biggie today and felt I would leave the house. I was already prepared for the worst. Two more weeks for the housemates. My twin and I are going higher.”
Tjay, a 33-year-old doctor, reflected on his unexpected journey in the house. “I’ll be honest, I didn’t think I would get this far,” he admitted. “You come in, you want to compete, you give yourself the best chance. There are many strong characters and competitors, but I did well.”
He also took a moment to acknowledge his supportive wife, stating, “It was difficult to leave my family for this game. Thankfully, my wife has been supportive. She said, ‘Go in and do your thing; don’t worry, I will take care of the house.’ This is to every woman who stays locked into her husband—you guys are strong and brilliant. Thank you, my wife.”
Looking ahead, Tjay revealed his plans to explore acting while continuing his medical career part-time. “I came into the show wanting to express myself and reveal my hidden talents,” he explained.
With these latest evictions following Ben and Chizoba’s departure last week, only 12 housemates remain in the running for the grand prize of ₦100 million, which includes a cash reward, an SUV, and additional sponsored prizes.
The competition’s intensity has increased with Sooj winning Monday’s Head of House challenge, securing immunity from eviction and a spot in the final weeks.
As Big Brother Naija Season 9 enters its final stretch, having begun on July 27 and set to conclude on October 6 after 71 days of entertainment, the remaining housemates must navigate the heightened emotions and shifting alliances to stay in the game.
With only six contestants left, every move counts as they vie for viewers’ votes and a shot at the coveted title.
