The Nigeria Police Force has made significant arrests in Edo State, apprehending two alleged political thugs in overnight raids ahead of the state’s election. Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumiyiwa Adejobi, announced the successful operation in Abuja on Saturday.
Edwin Obanor, 43, and Audu Tajudeen, 41, were taken into custody following intelligence reports of armed individuals planning to disrupt the electoral process.
Adejobi stated that police operatives acted swiftly on a tip-off about individuals armed to cause mayhem and disruption during the election.
Obanor, described as the leader of an armed group, was arrested at Oredo Ward 4 around 9 pm. Tajudeen, a PDP member from Ugbogbo quarters, Igara Akoko, was apprehended in Igara Akoko, Edo.
During searches, police recovered three locally fabricated pistols from Obanor and one locally made gun from Tajudeen.
Adejobi emphasized that these arrests demonstrate the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
“The police and other supporting security agencies will not tolerate any form of violence or disorderliness during the election in Edo State,” Adejobi added.
The suspects are now in custody and will face prosecution.
