Ahead of Edo State’s governorship election on Saturday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for peaceful conduct and civility among stakeholders
In a statement released by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy on Friday, President Tinubu urged candidates, political parties, and their supporters to approach the election with a spirit of sportsmanship and respect for the democratic process.
President Tinubu expressed confidence in the voters’ ability, stating, “He believes in the voters’ ability to make informed decisions about their future leaders.”
Highlighting the essence of democracy, President Tinubu remarked, “Democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game.”
President Tinubu praised the campaigns for focusing on substantive issues.
“The President commends the governorship candidates and political parties for their campaigns, which have focused on issues that matter most to the people of Edo State, including improving livelihoods, promoting economic growth, and contributing to national development,” the statement read.
In a move to ensure a smooth electoral process, President Tinubu expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He noted INEC’s commitment to conducting a free and fair election and called on all stakeholders to collaborate towards achieving this goal.
The President’s message extended beyond the political sphere, reaching out to the citizens of Edo State. He urged voters to “remain peaceful and respectful throughout the voting process,” and encouraged the resolution of any disagreements through proper channels and authorities.

Security concerns were also addressed in the President’s statement.
Tinubu voiced his trust in the professionalism and integrity of security agencies and INEC officials. He emphasized the need for these bodies to maintain impartiality and avoid actions that could compromise the electoral process’s integrity.
