The National Examination Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2024 Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE), revealing significant achievements in core subjects.
NECO Registrar, Prof. Dantani Wushishi, announced the results at the council’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.
According to Prof. Wushishi, 828,284 candidates, representing 60.55% of total participants, secured credits in both English Language and Mathematics.
The examination, which took place from June 19 to July 26, 2024, had 1,376,436 candidates sitting for the tests.
Prof. Wushishi highlighted the efficient marking process, stating, “Today, 55 days after the last written paper, signifies the successful conclusion of all processes leading to the release of the 2024 SSCE Internal results.”
In a broader perspective, the results showed an impressive 83.9% of candidates earning five credits and above, irrespective of English Language and Mathematics .
This statistic underscores overall performance across various subjects in the curriculum.
Prof. Wushishi provided a detailed breakdown of examination demographics: “1,376,423 candidates registered, comprising 706,950 males and 669,473 females. Of these, 1,367,736 sat for the exam, including 702,112 males and 665,624 females.”
Regarding examination malpractice, Prof. Wushishi reported a decrease in cases compared to the previous year.
He said, “In 2024, 8,407 candidates were involved in malpractice, down from 12,030 in 2023.”
However, the council faced academic integrity challenges in some schools.
Prof. Wushishi revealed that 40 schools in 17 states were involved in mass cheating. These schools will face a panel and sanctions.
