Edo State Commissioner of Police, Nemi Iwo, has vehemently refuted claims linking his deployment to the influence of Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike .
In a statement released Monday in Benin City, Police Public Relations Officer Moses Yamu conveyed CP Iwo’s response to the allegations.
CP Iwo described the claims as “baseless” and “mischievous,” emphasizing that his posting was a routine administrative procedure within the Nigeria Police Force. “It’s laughable to suggest that the deployment was influenced by the FCT Minister. I don’t have any personal or professional ties with him,” he stated.
Regarding potential electoral interference, CP Iwo clarified, “The CP is not an electoral umpire; I cannot determine the outcome of an election. More senior officers, including two DIGs, AIGs, CPs, and other senior officers, have been deployed to supervise the Edo election.”

He highlighted recent electoral innovations, stating, “The innovations adopted by INEC do not give the police any powers or privileges to influence election outcomes.”
Amid rising tensions in Edo State’s political landscape, CP Iwo reassured the public, “We condemn this mischievous news and urge the good people of Edo State to disregard the unfounded story.”
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to neutrality and professionalism in the upcoming governorship election.
