A group, the Concerned Northern Forum, has lamented that the failure of state governors to channel resources to the ordinary people ignited and fuelled protests across the country. The group noted that in stances where governors reached out to their people, there was calm and the people did not need to be on the streets protesting. According to the Forum, Governor of Kebbi State, Dr. Nasir Idris, was one of the governors who made efforts to run an inclusive government. It noted that these efforts convinced the youth and people in Kebbi state not to participate in the nationwide protest.
The group, which passed a vote of confidence on the Kebbi State governor, promised its continued support to it. The group’s spokesman, Abdulsalam Moh’d Kazeem made the assertion at a press conference in Abuja.
He said: “We are saddened to admit that this so-called nationwide protest to end hunger and bad governance could have been averted, as Mr. President has done everything in his power and is still doing his best to right the wrongs of previous administrations. Kazeem added that some state governors and stakeholders have refused to channel funds and materials meant for the masses, fuelling legitimate hunger and anger among Nigerians.
He praised Governor Idris for his dedication and commitment, saying, “Kebbi State remains a model, thanks to his efforts. He has channelled revenue, palliatives, and other incentives meant for his people towards alleviating hardship.” The group commended Idris for upholding the ideals of the Renewed Hope Agenda and aligning his state to take advantage of the current administration’s interventions.
