Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, has qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics basketball tournament.
They achieved this feat by defeating Canada 79-70 in their final group game at the Pierre Mauroy Stadium in Lille, France, on Sunday.
This victory marks the team’s first-ever appearance in the quarter-finals of the Olympics basketball tournament.
D’Tigress topped their group with five classification points, ahead of France’s game against Australia later in the day.
Led by Rena Wakama, the team bounced back from their loss to France in their second game, having previously won against Australia in their opening match. The first quarter ended with a tie at 18-18, but Canada edged ahead in the second quarter, leading 41-37 at halftime.
However, the third quarter saw a significant shift in momentum, with Canada managing only five points as D’Tigress dominated.
