As the call for a nationwide protest gains momentum, Thomas has expressed his displeasure over the looting and destruction of private and public properties in the state. He stated that the intention of the protest has been defeated as hoodlums have hijacked it, using it as an opportunity to loot and destroy both government and private property.
While condemning the act in Kaduna during a press conference over the weekend, Dr. Thomas emphasized the need for dialogue, adding that protest may not be the solution to ending the lingering insecurity and hardship that is currently affecting citizens.
The business mogul also called on security agencies across the country to be more professional in handling protesters. Dr. Thomas frowned upon the use of underage children as protesters in the state, cautioning parents and those behind the idea to consider the future of the country. “The use of underage children is uncalled for and does not speak well for the future of our nation. Most of these children were exposed to danger and had their fundamental human rights abused, as they do not know what they are protesting about. This is unfortunate.”
Dr. Thomas acknowledged that prices of food and basic commodities have skyrocketed in recent months, with Nigerians battling one of the country’s worst inflation rates and economic crises. “On this note, I call on the government at all levels to urgently address the issues raised by protesters across the country in the interest of peace and progress.”
“We must reflect on the heightened concerns over the nationwide protests and their potential impact on safety and security in Nigeria. Let’s work towards a peaceful society,” Dr. Thomas emphasized.
