The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three persons over offences, including rape and child abuse. One of the detainees, 50-year-old Abubakar Nuhu, from Gwallagan Mayaka, aka Wanzam was taken into custody for allegedly brutalizing his son. A resident of the ward disclosed that “his wife Amina (not real name) informed him that she saw a 5-year-old boy of their neighbours tied with a chain inside a room,” according to a statement released by the Command’s spokesman, Ahmed Wakil.
The complaint came from the Ward Head of the Gwallagan Mayaka area of Bauchi.
“On receipt of the information, a team of detectives led by CSP Mubarak S. Baba DPO D’ Division (Dutsen Tanshi) moved to the scene and rescued the boy.”
The statement explained that “during the interview, the victim identified himself as Hussaini Abubakar, who is five years old. He revealed that he was treated inhumanely by his biological father Abubakar Nuhu and further stated that he was incarcerated and subjected to inhumane treatment by his father for many days. He said in the period he was held captive, he was given no food or water

According to the state police PRO, Divisional Police Officer Auwal Muhammad, the Commissioner of Police, has instructed the Officer to detain the offender so that the offense can be investigated and prosecuted.
As per the statement, “the defendant stated that he had the minor confined to prevent him from stealing their neighbor’s valuables and he was advised to do so by a friend.”
Further information indicated that the Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had been instructed by the CP to look into the main suspect and potential motives behind the heinous conduct, as well as to transfer the investigation to the CID.

In a related development one Suleiman Musa’m’, aged 28 years, from behind Nitel community, was alleged to have enticed one Amina (not real name), a female, aged 9 years, from the same address, into his room, while she was running errands and had carnal knowledge of her devoid of her.

“During interrogation, the suspects freely confessed to having committed the crime. The investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be charged to court for prosecution for the established offence.”
Again, the command revealed the arrest of “one Bala Mohammed, male, aged 67yrs who lured two girls, one Safiya (not real name) aged 17yrs and Hassana (not real name) 16yrs, both of Unguwan Mahaukata into his room and had carnal knowledge of them and thereafter give them Five Hundred Naira, as explained by the victims.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily confessed to the crime and corroborated the victim’s statement.” The police added, that the investigation is still ongoing, after which the suspect will be profiled and charged to court.
