The National Woman Leader of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Dr. Mariam Yasin, has cautioned that Nigerians have not yet experienced the worst, despite the challenges evident within just one year.
This is even as Dr. Yasin emphasized the need for urgent action and reform to address the growing concerns facing the nation.
The Woman Leader disclosed this recently, in an exclusive interview with The Explainer while assessing President Bola Tinubu’s one year in office, in Abuja.

“In just one year, we have witnessed significant issues, and unfortunately, the worst is yet to come,”
“We need to see them return to their drawing board. The ministerial appointments primarily went to his cronies, relatives, and business associates. Sadly, they seem more focused on fulfilling his desires rather than addressing the plight of the masses.
“It’s evident they prioritize business interests; they are capitalists through and through. Just look at the disproportionate ministerial appointments favoring the North.”
Tinubu was inaugurated as the 16th President of Nigeria on May 29, 2023.
According to Dr. Yasin, she queried the removal of the fuel subsidy by President Tinubu on assumption of office, saying that the country was not ready for that.
The Woman Leader noted “Even if his intention was to remove the subsidy, the timing was inappropriate. He could have utilized that period to assemble a committee comprising his members to explore potential measures to ease the burden on the masses.
This abrupt decision, without assuming office or thoroughly assessing the situation, came as a shock. Despite assurances on television, the cost of governance continues to rise, leaving citizens to bear the brunt.”
Speaking on the performance of ministers in the President’s cabinet she pointed out that “He bestowed these appointments upon them to shield some of them from the scrutiny of the EFCC and to safeguard them from potential arrests.

“These appointments serve as a form of immunity. However, we are closely monitoring their actions. This week, we will convene to hear directly from them about their accomplishments and the tangible effects felt by the masses.
“It’s imperative for him to replace ineffective individuals and those with a history of corruption. Currently, they lack respect and fail to evoke any positive sentiment. Our eyes are on them,” she stated.
The Woman Leader further urged everyone to strive to excel in their endeavors to prevent vote-buying adding that they must not allow anyone to purchase their votes.
“The prevalence of vote-buying is evident in the current state of the country, just within one year, we are already facing challenges. We must fervently pray for divine intervention to reveal those who are oppressing the masses.
“The capitalists have aligned themselves with a clique, forming a cartel to undermine the nation. We will not tolerate this. We will employ wisdom and strategic measures to ensure that we assist our people, uplift the masses,” Dr. Yasin stated.
