The Women Radio Centre is set to host its highly anticipated 2024 investigative training for female journalists from May 13th to 15th, 2024. The training has the goal of bridging the gender gap in investigative journalism. This three-day intensive residential program, now in its third year, aims to arm female journalists with practical skills essential for conducting in-depth investigative reports on issues affecting women and girls in Nigeria.

Led by industry experts and professionals, including Dapo Olorunyomi, Publisher of Premium Times Nigeria, Dr. Suleiman M. Yar’adua of Bayero University Kano, and Idris Akinbajo, Managing Editor of Premium Times Nigeria, the training will feature a comprehensive curriculum designed to empower participants with the tools and knowledge needed to tackle underrepresented issues affecting women and girls in the country.
Toun Okewale–Sonaiya, CEO of the Women Radio Centre, highlighted the significance of the training. She said: “Our objective is to empower young female journalists to unearth and report on untold stories that impact women and girls, while amplifying their voices and addressing the investigative gender gap.”

From an impressive pool of 388 applicants, 20 female journalists have been carefully selected to participate in this year’s training, where they will benefit from the expertise of the esteemed faculty. The Women Radio Centre, established in 2020 with the support of the John D. And Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation says, remains committed to empowering women in the media and driving positive change through journalism.
