John Enoh, the Minister of Sports Development, has issued a challenge to the Super Falcons of Nigeria. Their task is to triumph over their South African counterparts in the upcoming second leg of their Olympic qualifiers. This crucial match is set to take place on Tuesday in Pretoria.
This directive was made public through a statement released on Sunday in Abuja.
The Super Falcons, who have been absent from the women’s football event of the Olympics for 16 years, managed to secure a 1-0 victory over the Bayana Bayana of South Africa in the first leg in Abuja on Friday.
Minister Enoh emphasized that after missing out on the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Olympic Games, it is high time for the team to reclaim their position on the international stage.
He underscored the importance of self-belief and resilience in securing a victory on Tuesday.
“The Super Falcons have demonstrated remarkable strength and prowess throughout their journey,” Enoh stated. “Now is the moment for them to rise and conquer. We have faith in their ability to overcome any challenge and make Nigeria proud.”
The Minister encouraged the team to aim high and ultimately shatter the 16-year Olympic jinx that has plagued the female national team.
“Breaking the 16-year Olympic jinx is not merely a goal; it will serve as a perfect reflection of the dedication and abilities of our athletes,” he said.
Enoh urged the Super Falcons to play with passion, determination, and unity.
“Together, we can rewrite history and inspire future generations. As they step onto the pitch in South Africa, the Super Falcons carry the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians. We stand with them every step of the way, providing the support they need to succeed,” Enoh affirmed.
