The Nigerian movie industry has lost one of its comic actors, Oyebamiji Quadri, popularly known as Sisi Quadri, who died on Friday at the age of 45.
The actor, who was known for his witty and hilarious roles in Yoruba movies and social media skits, passed away in his home town in Osun State after a brief illness.
His death came on the same day that his latest movie, Anikulapo: Rise of the Specter, was released. The movie, directed by Kunle Afolayan, featured Quadri as one of the three ghosts in the mystic epic series.
Quadri’s colleagues and fans have taken to social media to express their shock and grief over his demise.
Nollywood actress, Abiola Bayo, who worked with Quadri on several projects, paid tribute to him on Instagram. She wrote: “You will be greatly missed Sisi Quadri. May your soul rest in perfect peace. May God comfort all your loved ones.”
Another actress, Toyin Abraham, also shared her condolences on Twitter. She wrote: “You were a joy to work with and watch. You made us laugh so much. May God grant your family the fortitude to bear this loss.”
Quadri began his acting career in the early 2000s and rose to fame with his comic roles in movies such as Alakada, Jenifa, and Omo Ghetto. He also ventured into producing and directing his own movies, such as Sisi Eko, Sisi Ologe, and Sisi Alagbo.
He was also a popular figure on social media, where he entertained his fans with his funny skits and videos. He had over one million followers on Instagram and TikTok.
Quadri is survived by his wife and four children.
