An image of an uncompleted mansion, circulating on social media, claims that it belongs to Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed. The image shows a large building with a dome-shaped roof and a sign that reads “Cape Town”.
Commenting on the image, some social media users criticised Governor Mohammed for constructing a lavish mansion for himself while his people suffer from poverty and economic hardship.
The Explainer fact checker conducted a Google reverse image search. The results showed that the image has been online since 2020 and it is not related to the Bauchi state governor.
According to multiple sources, the image shows the entrance to an estate that belongs to Adron Homes and Properties, a popular real estate company in Nigeria. The estate is located at Simawa, a town in Ogun State, and is named Cape Town. The image was taken during the construction of the main entrance to the estate, which is the Phase 3 extension of the company’s existing property.
The image was also featured on the official website of Adron Homes and Properties, as well as on their social media pages, where they announced the launch of the Cape Town estate in 2020. The company also posted a video of the completed entrance on their YouTube channel in January 2021.
Furthermore, the image was used by some media outlets to report the award of the CEO of Adron Homes and Properties, Aare Adetola EmmanuelKing, as the Ogun Man of the Year 2020, an online contest by a platform known as AMEBO NEWS HUB.
