Sacks 3 LP’s Reps Candidates In Port Harcourt, Obio/Akpor
A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed a suit seeking to disqualify the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Siminalaye Fubara, from contesting the 2023 elections.
One of the PDP governorship aspirants in the state, Chief Morgan West, had approached the court seeking for Fubara’s disqualification on the allegation that he is not a card-carrying member of the party.
Morgan had insisted that the PDP governorship candidate, who recently resigned as Accountant-General of Rivers State, to contest for the party’s ticket, did not have a valid party membership card among other issues.
But, when the matter came up, the presiding judge, Justice Adamu Mohammed, threw out the suit filed by the plaintiff for incompetence and lack of jurisdiction.
In a similar development, the court has also sacked the candidates of Labour Party (LP) in Port Harcourt Federal Constituencies 1 and 2 as well as Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had gone to court to challenge the House of Representatives’ primary elections conducted by the LP in the three federal constituencies.
