- The Board
The Explainer is governed by a five member Board of Directors which provides strategic advice and direction for the platform. The Explainer Board is chaired by its Publisher, Mr. Abraham Ogbodo; a senior journalist and public communications expert of many years, and former Editor of The Guardian and The African Guardian. The Board is made up of accomplished professionals in media, civil society, labour and professional groups; it provides strategic editorial advice for the growth and expansion of the platform.

The Explainer Virtual Newsroom is made up of investigative journalists, video specialists, content creators, data analysts and graphics designers working from various locations to produce and disseminate context- specific content. The news room is led by the Editor-in-Chief responsible for its day to day running and editorial oversight.
Profile of The Explainer Editor-in-Chief
Armsfree Ajanaku, journalist, activist and strategic communicator studied History and International Relations at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. He started his journalism career at The Guardian Newspaper, where he worked as features writer in the publication’s flagship He similarly reportedly widely on issues of the environment, resulting in his invitation to cover the United Nations Climate Conferences in Durban, South Africa, and in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. During his tour of duty at The Guardian newsroom, he was variously awarded for excellent journalism by the Diamond Award for Media Excellence (DAME), the Nigeria Guild of Editors, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the New York based Earth Journalism Network.
In January 2012, Armsfree was head hunted by the Heinrich Boell Stiftung, the international foundation affiliated to the Green Party in Germany. He led the Communications and Civic Participation programme of the foundation including the programme of driving the development agenda in Nigeria using green and sustainable ideas. In 2014, he went on to lead the Communications Department of the Centre for Civic Education, a coalition of over 400 Nigerian human rights organisations, which observed the 2015 elections, using the innovative Parallel Vote Tabulation. In this role, he planned and coordinated the communication of the project by engaging the local and international media, the diplomatic community, and stakeholders within government agencies. Armsfree Ajanaku’s interest in journalism is driven mainly by its capacity to create human connections, and support effective democratic governance.
