Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have successfully defended their WAFU B U20 championship title, securing a dramatic 2-1 victory over Ghana at the Stade de Kegue in Lome, Togo, on Wednesday, marking another milestone in their impressive youth football campaign.
The Nigerian U-20 team’s triumph was orchestrated by Kparobo Arierhi, whose exceptional performance yielded two crucial goals.
Arierhi, a product of Beyond Limits FA, displayed remarkable skill in the 35th minute, converting a well-coordinated team move into the opening goal. His prowess was further demonstrated just before the halftime whistle when he doubled Nigeria’s lead.
Despite Ghana’s determined effort to mount a comeback with a second-half goal, the Flying Eagles maintained their composure to secure the championship trophy.
This victory follows their convincing 3-1 win over Niger Republic in the semifinals, which had already guaranteed their participation in the 2025 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau had expressed confidence in the team’s abilities before the final match.
“The NFF is delighted with their performance. We believe they have what it takes to go all the way and successfully defend their title,” Gusau stated.
