The Nigerian federal government has announced an increase in passport fees, set to take effect from September 1.
This decision aims to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport, according to a statement released by Kenneth Udo, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS).
Under the new fee structure, the 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity period will now cost N50,000, up from the previous N35,000. Similarly, the 64-page passport booklet with a ten-year validity will see its price rise from N70,000 to N100,000.
“Based on the review, 32-page passport booklet with five year validity previously charged at N35,000 would now be N50,000 only,” Mr Udo stated.
He added, “The 64-page Passport booklet with 10-year validity, which was N70,000, would be N100,000 only.”
It’s important to note that these changes apply only to passport applications within Nigeria.
The statement clarified that fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged, maintaining consistency for citizens living abroad.
The NIS acknowledged the potential inconvenience this price increase might cause for prospective applicants.
However, they emphasized their commitment to maintaining high standards in passport production and service delivery.

“The Service regrets any inconvenience this increase might cause prospective applicants,” the statement read.
It continued, “The service assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment to transparency and quality service delivery at all times.”
