The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) has sought assistance from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to address irregularities preventing polytechnic students from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program.
NAPS President Ridwan Opeyemi led a delegation to JAMB Headquarters in Bwari, Abuja, on Friday to express concerns over the non-mobilization of Higher National Diploma (HND) graduates for NYSC.
Opeyemi highlighted the plight of many HND graduates who, despite claiming to have regularized their status with JAMB, were still unable to participate in the national service scheme.
“Many students who graduated with HND certificates from various polytechnics and claimed to have regularized with JAMB were yet to be mobilized for the scheme,” he stated.
The NAPS president expressed satisfaction with the meeting’s outcome, saying, “The Registrar took his time to discuss with us, and we now know where the problem lies, which is mostly from our various institutions.”
In response, JAMB Registrar Is-haq Oloyede clarified the board’s role in the admission process.
“Our role stops at admissions for National Diploma (ND); we have no record of HND students,” Oloyede added.
He advised the NAPS team to familiarize themselves with the admissions guidelines and consult the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for further assistance.
