The Nigerian Police Zone 5 Command in Benin City, overseeing Edo and Delta states, has established a new vigilante group, the Edo State Police Vigilante Group, aimed at enhancing intelligence gathering and strengthening collaboration with the police, officials said Monday.
The move, led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Arungwa Nwazue, is intended to improve security across Edo State through coordinated efforts between the police and the vigilante group, according to a statement signed by SP Tijani A. Momoh, the police public relations officer.
Operational guidelines for the vigilante group will be provided soon, Momoh said.
Adding that, the public is encouraged to cooperate with both the police and the newly formed group to support effective policing.
The initiative reflects the police’s ongoing efforts to address security challenges in the region and ensure community safety, officials noted.
