The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially declared Monday, September 18, a public holiday to commemorate Eid-Maulud, which marks the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo made this announcement on behalf of the government, as disclosed in a statement released by Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, in Abuja on Friday.
In his address, Minister Tunji-Ojo extended warm felicitations to Muslims across Nigeria and in the diaspora.
He emphasized the importance of this sacred occasion, stating, “I urge all members of the Muslim Ummah, and indeed all Nigerians, to embrace the virtues of patience, sacrifice, and resilience that this celebration embodies.”
The minister further encouraged citizens to use this period for reflection and prayer.
“This is an opportune moment to supplicate for lasting peace and increased prosperity in our nation,” he remarked.

Highlighting the significance of Eid-Maulud, Tunji-Ojo called upon Nigerians to draw inspiration from the Prophet’s teachings of compassion, unity, and moral uprightness.
