The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cleared Fauziya Danjuma Goje, daughter of Senator Danjuma Goje, of allegations surrounding a viral naira abuse video.
The clip, which showed naira notes being freely sprayed at a wedding in Kano last month, was initially believed to be from Goje’s daughter’s wedding. However, the EFCC stated that claims attributing the development to Goje’s daughter were untrue.
“As a responsible and accountable anti-corruption agency campaigning against currency mutilation and dollarization of the economy, the EFCC swung into action by analyzing the video and findings showed that the alleged naira abuse actually happened but not at the wedding of Goje’s daughter but at the wedding dinner of Amina Babagana Zannah held on the aforementioned date,” said the EFCC in a statement by its Head of Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale.
The EFCC revealed that Zannah is the daughter of Hajara Seidu Haruna, also known as Hafsat Gold Nigeria, CEO of Hafsat Jewellery Enterprise with offices in Abuja, Kano, and Dubai. Haruna confirmed the viral video, admitting that the alleged naira abuse took place at her daughter’s wedding dinner on October 24, 2024.
The bridegroom, Ibrahim Mohammad, is from Niger Republic, and those who allegedly sprayed naira notes and dollar bills were from his family.
The Commission has invited Mohammad to report to its national headquarters in Abuja, along with everyone who sprayed naira notes at his wedding with Zannah.
The EFCC appreciates the growing awareness against naira abuse but emphasizes that it will not wrongly accuse anyone.
The agency remains committed to its mission, stating, “The Commission remains steadfast in this crusade and would spare no offender, no matter how highly placed”.
