A Kano Upper Shari’a Court has thrown out adultery allegations against Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties, Auwal Sankara, citing insufficient evidence in a case that attracted public attention.
Judge Ibrahim Sarki-Yola, delivering the ruling, stated, “Following the investigation by the office of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the report shows there is no evidence to prove that there was any illicit affair between Auwal Danladi Sankara and Tasleem Baba Nabegu.”
The case, filed by Nasiru Buba against his wife Tasleem Baba-Nabegu and Commissioner Sankara, collapsed when the complainant and his legal team failed to appear in court to challenge the police findings.
“Since the complainant and his lawyers are not present to challenge the submission by the police, I have no choice but to strike out the case,” Judge Sarki-Yola declared.
The judge also issued a stern warning to the Kano Hisbah Board, emphasizing that allegations against prominent individuals require thorough investigation to prevent reputation damage.
Reacting to the verdict, Sankara’s legal representative, Sadam Suleiman, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating, “We have always maintained that our client is innocent. The court has affirmed this by clearing his name based on the police investigation.”
In a significant development, Mrs. Baba-Nabegu’s lawyer, Rabiu Shu’aibu, announced potential legal action against the accuser.
“We will discuss with our client to explore the possibility of filing a case against Nasiru Buba, as he has defamed her name,” Shu’aibu revealed.
