A MAGISTRATE Court presided by Sanusi Muhammad has remanded Abdulrahman Muhammed, an Islamic cleric who dismembered and allegedly murdered Hafsat Lawal, a final year student of Kwara State College of Education.

The Explainerย reported how the cleric killed the final-year student and was arrested by Police in the state.

The court sitting which took place in Ilorin, could not take the plea of the defendant due to lack of jurisdiction to entertain the matter. He ordered that Abdulrahman be kept at Oke-Kura until March 6, 2025.

The suspects were brought to court by Police.

He was charged, alongside his four accomplices, with criminal conspiracy, culpable homicide, armed robbery, and having human parts.

Among the suspects arraigned in court by Police were: 41-year-old Islamic scholar Ahmed Abulwasiu from Adualere in Ilorin; 28-year-old Neo Life businessperson Sulaiman Muhydeen from Amilegbe in Ilorin; 29-year-old phone repairer Jamiu Uthman from Adualere in Ilorin; and 31-year-old farmer Abdulrahman Jamiu from Elemere, Malete.

The police, in their FIR, said Abdulrahman and the four others belong to the same occult group and confessed to robbing and killing the lady for ritual purposes.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), an acclaimed Islamic cleric allegedly committed the crime with his co-accused as accomplices.

Arraigned along with ABDULRAHMAN BELLO are: AHMED ABDULWASIU โ€˜Mโ€™, 41; SULEIMAN MUHYIDEEN โ€˜Mโ€™, 28; JAMIU UTHMAN โ€˜Mโ€™, 29; ABDULRAHMON JAMIU โ€˜Mโ€™, 31; AND OTHERS AT LARGE.

The charge sheet added that โ€œDuring the course of the investigation at the State CID, Ilorin you, Abdulrahman Bello โ€˜maleโ€™ indicted and confessed to having done the act with the consent and knowledge of the following persons; Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Suleiman Muhyideen, Jamiu Uthman and Abdulrahman Jamiu all โ€˜maleโ€™, who were all into the same occultic group and that led to their arrest.

โ€œInvestigation conducted at the State CID, Ilorin revealed that you Abdulrahman Bello, Ahmed Abdulwasiu, Suleiman Muhyideen, Jamiu Uthman, Abdulrahman Jamiu all โ€˜maleโ€™ and others at large, criminally conspired together in killing of the victim for ritual purposes and equally robbed her of her pieces of jewelry and other valuables.
