The Osun State chapter of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has suspended former Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola over accusations of anti-party activities, the party confirmed Tuesday.

In a letter addressed to APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje and signed by Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal and Secretary Alao Kamoru, the party cited allegations of misconduct by Aregbesola, which led to the suspension decision.

The accusations, brought forth by the APC’s executive committee in Ilesa East Local Government Area, include the creation of factions within the party, such as the Omoluabi caucus, and alleged alliances with opposition parties.

Aregbesola is also accused of failing to support or participate in APC activities since 2019, including not voting for the party.

According to the letter, the State Executive Council (SEC) acted in accordance with Article 21 of the APC constitution, which permits suspension pending investigation.

A disciplinary committee has been established to review the charges and provide Aregbesola an opportunity to respond.

The committee has 14 days to submit its findings and recommendations.

The SEC emphasized its dedication to party discipline, urging members to avoid actions that could harm APC’s unity and electoral prospects.

Aregbesola, once a key figure in Osun’s political landscape and an ally of President Bola Tinubu, has yet to respond to the allegations.
