The National Coordinator of CNG, comrade Jamilu Charanchi, gave the charge during the โ€˜North Central 2023 Election Sensitisation And Awareness Conferenceโ€™, in Lafia urged the regions to eschew all forms of violence during the 2023 general election.

He said the sensitisation became imperative to enlighten the masses to know the significance of making right choices during the forthcoming elections.

He said: โ€œAt this critical moment of electioneering period, a lot of desperate politicians who have nothing to offer are mobilising people along ethnic and religious lines for their selfish interests.

โ€œAll those promoting ethnic and religious sentiments only talk about division during this period. Once elections are over, they dine and wine together and abandon the voters.

โ€œNigerians have been voting leaders in all previous elections along ethnic and religious lines but it has not led us to anywhere. It is high time we take our destinies in our hands and get it right in the 2023 elections by voting for credible candidates with capacity, competence and track records of achievementsโ€.

The National Coordinator blamed political leaders in the Northern Nigeria for not doing enough to address the issues of insecurity which had made many of its residents to live in fear.

โ€œThe Northern Nigeria has witnessed several attacks from many fronts. The Boko Haram insurgency, arms smuggling, rampant kidnappings, rural armed banditry, communal and religious violence, among others.

โ€œAll these problems and sufferings in the North and Nigeria today, are traceable only to inept and insensitive leadership at the national and state levels. But we believe that there is an urgent need to stop the trend, so our northern leaders must wake up and proffer solutionsโ€.

In his remarks, Nasarawa State Coordinator of CNG, Abubakar Suleiman, said the conference was aimed at sensitising residents of the state to realise the seriousness of the 2023 elections and the need to get it right.

He explained that voting along ethnic and religious lines would not help the country, and advised the people to vote for credible persons irrespective of whatever differences they have with them.
